Dear Recipient’s Name,

I am writing to bring to your attention the critical need for increased support and resources for breastfeeding and human milk feeding individuals in our community. I believe that we must prioritize the health and well-being of both parents and infants by ensuring that everyone has access to the necessary resources to successfully provide children with the gold standard of nutrition.

The benefits of human milk are well-documented and include improved immune system function, better motor skills, enhanced cognitive development, and a lower risk of various health conditions such as asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, and childhood leukemia for the infant. As well as significant health benefits for the person doing the feeding including lower rates of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, ovarian cancer, and breast cancer, as well as a reduced risk of postpartum depression.

Despite these well-known benefits, many individuals face significant barriers, including a lack of workplace accommodations, insufficient parental leave, inadequate access to lactation support services, and social stigma. To address these issues, I urge you to consider the following actions:

1. Support Legislation for Parental Leave:

Advocate for policies that provide adequate paid parental leave to allow parents the time they need to establish and maintain feeding routines. A minimum of six months after birth.

2. Workplace Accommodations:

Ensure that workplaces are required to provide private, comfortable spaces for pumping, as well as sufficient break times for lactating individuals and shortage for milk.

3. Access to Lactation Support:

Increase funding and resources for lactation consultants, postpartum doulas, and support groups, such as La Leche League, to provide essential guidance and assistance to new parents.

4. Public Education Campaigns:

Promote public awareness campaigns that normalize feeding human milk and educate the community on its benefits, helping to reduce stigma and support feeding parents.

5. Regulation of Formula Marketing:

Implement stricter regulations on the marketing of formula to ensure that parents receive unbiased information and can make informed choices without undue corporate influence.

By taking these steps, we can create a supportive environment that allows parents to make the best decisions for their families and promotes the health and well-being of our community.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I look forward to your response and hope to see meaningful progress soon.

Sincerely your constituent,
