For Birth Workers

There is always more to the story.

Every birther brings more than their birth preferences into the room.

They bring their nervous system, relationships, identity, sexuality, history, culture, fears, expectations, experiences—and stories.

And you bring yourself, too.

Sound Birthing helps birth workers understand the person in front of them, recognize what happens between two people in vulnerable moments, and strengthen the skills that help birthers feel safe enough to show you more of who they are and what they need.

Featured Training

Mind-Body, Birth: Support Intensive

You already know how to be helpful.

This training is about understanding what happens underneath the helping.

Why does a birther suddenly get quiet? Why do some conversations feel unexpectedly difficult? How do your own experiences affect what you notice—or don't notice? What happens when a birther's choice makes you uncomfortable? How do you support someone without deciding what empowerment is supposed to look like for them?

The Mind-Body, Birth: Support Intensive brings psychology, nervous-system awareness, inclusive communication, bias awareness, informed decision-making, lactation, postpartum support, sexuality, and the realities of human relationships into your work as a doula.

The course moves through four connected layers:

  1. Understand yourself.

Notice the experiences, assumptions, reactions, and patterns you bring into the room.

  2. Understand the person in front of you.

Learn to see more of the person—not just the pregnancy, decision, behavior, or problem in front of you. Learn to stay curious about the experiences and stories that may be shaping what you see.

  3. Understand what happens between the two of you.

Explore trust, communication, power, discomfort, bias, boundaries, and the ways people respond to one another.

  4. Learn how to support the whole person.

Bring it together in flexible, practical ways you can use with actual birthers in actual complicated moments.

You aren't learning a script for the “right” thing to say.

You're learning how to figure out what the person in front of you might need from you now—and how to offer it without steering where they go next.

Free Workshop

Not ready to commit to a full training?

Start with Confident Support in Uncomfortable Moments, my free virtual workshop for doulas and birth workers.

Birthers may trust you—and still protect you from parts of their truth.

We'll look at what can happen when a birther becomes quiet, changes direction, shares something uncomfortable, or makes a choice you didn't expect—and I'll introduce you to HIKE, a practical framework for deciding how to respond without jumping to assumptions or making the moment about you.

It's a complete workshop on its own. You don't need to take the Mind-Body, Birth: Support Intensive before or after it.

Come learn something useful. Stay curious.

Ways to Work With Dr. V

Sometimes you don't need another course.

Sometimes you need another person to sit with the actual thing in front of you.

Mentorship

Bring the situation you keep thinking about.

A difficult birther interaction. A business decision. Burnout. A boundary you're struggling to set. A practice that no longer feels like you. A big idea you're trying to make real.

Mentorship is a place to think out loud with someone who will listen closely, ask useful questions, help you see what you may be missing, and work with you toward a next step that actually fits.

Focused Feedback

Client Experience Audit

What are you conveying to clients before they even meet you?

Your intake form does more than collect information.

The questions you ask, the choices you provide, the assumptions built into the language, and even what you don't ask can tell a potential client a great deal about what it might feel like to work with you.

Bring me your intake form. I'll review it through the lens of trust, inclusion, communication, and whole-person care and give you specific feedback on what your client may be experiencing before the two of you ever sit down together.

Another Perspective

Explore the Birther Experience

Professional education is only part of being a professional.

Seeing birth preparation through a birther's perspective can change how you show up beside them.

These are the Sound Birthing tools birthers are using to prepare for birth, navigate decisions, understand themselves, and improve their birth experiences and outcomes.

Read Mind-Body, Birth®. Explore the Birth Map. Try the Birth Compass. Learn the exercises, questions, and frameworks I give birthers.

See what they're being asked to consider. Notice the questions they're sitting with. Explore the tools from the other side of the relationship.

Because the more perspectives you can hold, the more curious you can remain about the story unfolding in front of you.
